Twin Birthday Part II: Death of a Cake Monday, May 26 2014

I made the twins a “Hello Kitty” cake this year since they love kitties. The girls blew out the “2” candle with a little help from the rest of the family.

The kids seemed amazed and delighted when Chris and I encouraged them to touch the cake.

Even after I sliced off and distributed a few pieces, they continued to snatch frosting and cake directly from the source.

The kids continued to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Twin Birthday Sunday, May 25 2014

Cassie and Callie turn two tomorrow. We decided to celebrate today with presents and cake and tomorrow with a special outing.

Into the wee hours of the prior night, Chris hung decorations, paper lanterns, and a balloon drop. I decorated the cake and inflated the birthday present Jump-O-Lene. Our little insomniac Everett played an integral role by taking the new Jump-O-Lene on a midnight test run.

The next morning started like any other. The girls courteously alerted us they were awake by jumping in their beds.

After dressing the girls in the fairy outfits Chris bought for them, we headed downstairs. The girls spotted the Jump-O-Lene and paused, assessing the situation. Would they dare enter?

Together, they braved inside and found two new friends – froggie and bunny.

And 400 multicolored balls.

After some jumping and playing, it was time for a birthday treat. Unbeknownst to each other, Chris and I each purchased a bag of the same special birthday candy. The only question is, which twin is sour and which is sweet?

Image

After thirty minutes of the sugar-zoned voices of the candy-addled zombie twins droning “more…more…more…” Chris and I decided to distract them from their namesake confectionery with presents.

Image

They received art supplies, books. money, a toy guitar, a toy car, dress up hats, dress up tutus, and dress up career clothes. So of course, it was time for a quick fashion show.

Exhausted from the fun, the twins adjourned for a birthday mid-afternoon slumber. Stay tuned for more birthday fun involving further dramatic sugar highs, a little sunlight, and lots of sidewalk chalk.

Ev had a great time opening Christmas presents this year.

Kid Photos Saturday, Sep 8 2012

A selection of photos of the kids from the past month. Ev visited the zoo again with Dad, attended the first birthday party of my coworker’s lovely little daughter, climbed all over a ladder, and tried to climb in the pet carrier. The girls enjoyed batting at toys on their activity mat and holding their own bottles.

Woo Hoo Ev is Two! Saturday, Sep 1 2012

Today is Everett’s second birthday. This morning our family took a long walk and played at a nearby park. In the afternoon while Ev napped, Chris and I did a little decorating. Chris purchased a balloon drop (pull string and cascade of balloons float down) and inflated many many balloons to fill it.

We ate some cake. Ev likes buses, so I made a bus cake this year.

After the cake, Chris and Ev hung out in front of the house and played with silly string and bubbles. See below a video of Ev’s birthday adventures. The balloon drop was huge hit. Ev did not enjoy our particular rendition of Happy Birthday, but recovered quickly to enjoy some cake and outdoor time with Chris. Happy Birthday little buddy! We are so thankful to have you in our lives.

Lake Ontario Venture Saturday, Aug 25 2012

Last weekend we ventured to Southwick Beach State Park (http://nysparks.com/parks/36/details.aspx) on the shores of Lake Ontario for a two hour beach hike. Chris and I carried the twins in Baby Bjorns and they slept almost the entire time. Little trooper Ev hiked the whole two hours and had a great time. Here are some photos and a video showing our adventures.

Ev has a brand new jersey. What kind of jersey? Vikings! Why number 91? I’ll leave it to you to figure that one out.

Stuffed Animal Adoration Wednesday, Aug 15 2012

Everett loves stuffed animals…loves them. He makes big piles of stuffed animals on the floor and rolls around in them. He carries them around. He hugs them and pets them while saying “niiiice”. He even kisses them.

Rhyme Time Friday, Aug 3 2012

Ev and Chris traveled to a local library yesterday for “Rhyme Time” which involves stories, puppets, and musical instruments. Here is a picture of Ev examining the musical instruments. He especially enjoyed the drumsticks and other mallet-type objects.
